The Last Witness DOCUMENTATION PROJECT
Protecting Memory. Defending Truth.
For us, By us
Why Documentation
The Last Witness is part of a larger community-led documentation project created by Darfuri people.
For decades, violence in Darfur has been misreported, minimized, or erased. Evidence disappears, testimonies are lost, and those on the outside shape narratives. We are building an independent archive of firsthand accounts, records, and memories. This project exists to preserve truth, protect evidence, and ensure that what happened in Darfur cannot be rewritten.
PROJECTS
Projects grounded in Darfuri voices, memory, and firsthand documentation

Documentary
This film is dedicated to recording the siege and fall of Darfur in 2025 as told by those who lived through it.
As the Rapid Support Forces tightened their control, cities were surrounded, neighborhoods were cut off, and ordinary life became impossible. Families were displaced, markets closed, communication broke down, and people were forced to survive day by day under siege.
The Last Witness brings forward the voices of Darfuri people to describe what it was like to live through that period. It documents how the siege unfolded, how control was established, and what was lost when Darfur fell.

Testimony and Evidence Collection
This work focuses on collecting and preserving testimony from Darfuri people affected by violence, displacement, and siege. Testimonies are gathered with care to document lived experience, protect memory, and ensure that what happened in Darfur is recorded accurately and responsibly.
This project prioritizes community consent, dignity, and long term preservation over extractive or sensational documentation.
